Reaper is free to try and can be purchased for a reasonable price.

My VST is Superior Drummer 3. VST stands for Virtual Studio Technology. From SDX (Superior Drum Expansion) you have:

Guitar Pro 8
My midi/note program is Guitar Pro 8.
Excellent program for the price.
If you want to give a little more, there are better programs.
